Furthermore, it is recommended that only 25-35lbs of weight gain occurs during pregnancy. It is important to note that this weight gain is for women that had a normal BMI before becoming pregnant. If one had a BMI of 25 or higher pre-pregnancy, she is advised to gain less weight during all three trimesters. Again, please consult with a health-care provider for more information.

For most women experiencing a normal pregnancy, exercise is usually safe and recommended for its numerous benefits. But to be sure that working out will cause no harm, the expecting mother must always check with her doctor before proceeding with workouts done prior to pregnancy, or if completely beginning a new exercise regime. This is a cautionary step for women who were sedentary pre-pregnancy and for those women who have certain medical conditions like weight issues (especially those with a BMI of 30 or more), high blood pressure, or gestational diabetes. If you are unsure of your BMI, please enter the proper information with your pre-pregnancy weight and height.
